If you have any doubts about the continuing fascination with cars from the 50s just go online and look at the number of enthusiasts looking to buy, sell or restore these vintage beauties.

There is even a market for pictures and photos of the cars of this period.

View any list of 1950s old vintage cars for sale and you are looking at a catalogue of some of the best vehicles ever made. Restored cars from this period now command a price tag of several thousand dollars. Included are beautifully designed Chrysler Wyndsors from 1950, 1951 Chevrolet Deluxe Power Glides, Packard 250 Convertibles from 1952, from the middle of the decade Ford Club Sedans and the Chevrolet Impala of 1959.

Admittedly this list is made up of cars produced in the United States. That is hardly surprising as Detroit was the world’s powerhouse of motor car production. But that is not the whole story. Other industrial nations were doing their best to keep up with vehicle production, power and design. And those vehicles produced overseas have become the old vintage cars that are much sort after today.

During the 1950s the Germans gave the world the Mercedes Benz SL Roadster and the intriguing Messerschmitt KR 175 Convertible. The French with their unique sense of design and style coupled with utility produced the Citroen 2CV and the Peugeot 203 coupe. Not to be outdone during the period the Italian car manufacturers rolled out cars of exquisite vintage such as the Lancia Aurelia and the Alfa Romeo Guilietta.

All these cars, and others produced throughout the period, continue to be much sought after by the 21st century old vintage car collector. They are so popular because, freed from the ravages of war and following the lead set by Detroit, motorists during the 1950s had a fantastic choice of car designs, and engines were becoming ever more powerful. And with easy credit coming online during the decade more and more people were able to buy cars.

If you do not own old vintage classic cars from the 1950s it is still possible to see them. And that does not mean having to watch them in movies from the period. Owners love to show off their prized possessions and there are exhibitions which allow them to do this. Go online and check out where the exhibitions are being held and you will be able to view these vehicles, which have captured our imaginations, in real life.
