Chevrolet Impala
The Chevrolet Impala, launched in the late 1950s, became one of the biggest
names in car history.
The Impala first emerged as show car at the 1956 GM Motorama. However, its real claim to firm emerged in its
1958 launch as the “Chevrolet Bel Air Impala.”
It was the only full-sized Chevrolet model to offer a convertible version
that year, and was also available as a hardtop. And with its longer rear deck the new Impala looked quite different
from previous Chevvies.
The Impala of 1958, offered as a two-door hard top had sculptured rear fenders, with three taillights each side
and dual headlights at the front. A new style chassis, allowed the body to sit lower, but still provided
plenty of room for driver and passengers.

There were six versions of V8 engines powering the first roll out of Impalas. There were 283 V8s, with 185, 230
and 250 bhp. The 348 V8s were produced with a 250, 280 and 315 bhp capability.
A fuel injection option was offered for the 1958 range of Impalas for the 283 V8 250bhp and the 283 V8 290 hp
versions. A hardtop Chevrolet Impala sports coupe (pictured) was also added to the range that year.
