Buick Centurion
The Buick Centurion was a concept car introduced to the American public at
the Motorama Show in 1956.
Powered by a 325 hp V8 engine with rear wheel traction, the Centurion was a two-door coupe and the body was
constructed out of fibreglass.
The upper body was painted red and there was a metallic finish on the lower body and glass top.
The Centurion had a sleek bodyline incorporating wing-type back fenders. The front of the car was a completely
new design with a long bonnet sloping towards the front.
Both the grille and headlights were set behind the bumper which formed part of the body.

The 1956 Buick Centurion also had futuristic features such as a camera at
rear of the vehicle allowing the driver to view traffic behind him. Indeed, this camera replaced the traditional
rear view mirror.
The interior of the vehicle was also futuristic in design, as well as luxurious.
The cantilever suspension steering wheel was similar to those found in aircraft and the steering column was
fitted in the centre of the dash. The interior trim was red leather and fibreglass.
Entry to the vehicle was made easier as the front seats slid back automatically on the door being opened.
