Chevrolet Corvette
The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most famous names in world car
manufacturing. It continues to be produced to this very day, but the Corvette was first launched in the 1950s to
slake the desire for stylish performance cars.
The Corvette was first launched in 1953, and the first generation continued in production throughout the 50s
until 1962.
A Corvette was produced by Chevrolet for the 1953 GM Motorama, and within six
months was in production.
The first Corvettes were hand built two passenger convertibles. The body was constructed from fibre glass and
had a Polo white exterior and red interior. The engine, dubbed the Blue Flame Special, was an upgraded 235 six
cid.
There were further developments with Corvette first generation. In 1954, the second year of production the Corvette
could also be purchased in red, blue and black.

By 1955 dwindling sales saw the future of the Corvette under threat. Team Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov
led the fight back, offering the V8 4.34l as an option as well as a three-speed manual transmission system as an
alternative to the Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission.
The 1957 Chevrolet Corvette is renowned as a classic. As well as its excellent styling the car
oozed power a new 283 cid V8 which came in four versions, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph is less than
six seconds.
